About this deal

Featuring an exciting mix of stories and non-fiction to foster a love of reading in all children, matched to the Little Wandle progression. Parents will also be invited to attend a phonics meeting with the Phonics Leader in the Autumn Term.

Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 14:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays).the Rapid Catch-up fluency assessments when children are reading the Phase 5 set 3, 4 and 5 books for age 7+. We have integrated Phase 6 throughout much of the programme as children need to be able to read words in the past and progressive tenses and with the suffixes in Phase 6 so that they can read fully decodable books that have a normal syntax and are not constrained by a restriction on verb tenses. We offer a 20% built-in discount and free protective jackets to ensure your new books withstand the rigours of the home-school book band programme for as long as possible. Little Wandle is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme, which provides high quality planning and resources for the teaching staff. You can use these with your child at home to help them with their pronunciation of phonemes and recognition of corresponding graphemes.

The programme includes weekly lesson plans and planned assessment materials to help achieve a constant pace of learning and is designed for the teaching of all children in a mainstream setting. When I Google 'little Wandle big cat book bands', it's the first link that comes up for me, titled 'sheet 1'. Children need to practice and secure their phonic decoding skills until they become automatic and fluent readers. The progress in the phases seems much more regimented, so I think we’ll be “stuck” on stage 4 for quite a while….

Parents should use voices, expression, discuss unfamiliar vocabulary, talk about the pictures, and predict what might happen next. This means all children are given books that match their phonic ability and enable them to be successful at reading, in turn developing their love of reading for pleasure. This could be done by using pictures, missing words in sentences, fill in the missing sounds, make words with the sound using letters displayed. We aim to promote reading for pleasure, and hope to instil this love of reading in all children through the culture of our school. This ensures that our children are well prepared to begin to learn grapheme-phoneme correspondences and blending to read in Reception and Year 1, where they will follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression which is designed to ensure that all children build on their growing knowledge of the alphabetic code, mastering phonics to read and spell as they move through school. Our Little Wandle SEND Programme – which is included within the general membership package – has been developed to be used with the graduated approach to teach children to learn to read in small steps that provide the right amount of challenge. Small group reading provides children with an opportunity to practice and apply what they have learnt in phonics. Each class in KS2 has a class reading book which allows teachers share their own love of reading with their pupils. This could be by showing pictures or objects with the sound in and getting the children to guess or find the sound.

We encourage reading for pleasure through children having a choice of challenging and enriching texts as well as building in time for children to read independently and as part of a whole class. Little Wandle is only Letters and Sounds repackaged after the DfE admitted the original version wasn't fit for purpose so most of the phonic books written to match Letters and Sounds should be suitable. It is our intention to ensure that, by the end of their primary education, all pupils (including those with SEND) are able to read fluently, and with confidence, in any subject in their forthcoming secondary education by ensuring all children have the appropriate word reading and comprehension skills. This training is open to all members of the leadership team who are working with the Reading Leader on programme implementation and development. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. This is the new schools reading scheme and there's no information available online about rough reading levels/ages. Any child with a SEND, who would struggle with cognitive overload from the pace of the Rapid Catch-Up programme, is assessed on the SEND assessment and the best SEND pathway and planning is selected for them accordingly. They also assess when children are ready to exit the Rapid Catch-up programme, which is when they read the final fluency assessment at 90+ words per minute.
