About this deal

The additions in this package help offset the pain you will experience, but I can’t shake the feeling that Guitar Hero may not be a brand best suited for portable play. It’s a largish device that wraps around the bottom of the system; you literally strap your hand onto the accessory, which forces your fingers onto the four fret buttons. Vicarious Visions learned from the mistakes of the first game, improving the note progression in Decades to better facilitate the awkward Guitar Grip setup. Speaking to US magazine Nintendo Power, the publisher confirmed that relatively contemporary hits from both Maroon 5 and Blink 182 will be included alongside songs from Twisted Sister, KISS, and Jet from Gladiators. The games utilize the DS's local wireless features to allow two players to compete against each other.

The Modern Hits setlist is said to cover "guitar-heavy hits from the past five years" [23] with "plenty of noteworthy songs", [24] and considered to be a "compelling blend of tracks". That energy is used to increase the score multiplier and save you during particularly difficult note strings.

Despite the game's lack of a fret button, the game is still a great challenge with a solid difficulty curve -- especially for those who still haven't jumped on the Guitar Hero bandwagon. The Grip is designed for the DS Lite, but features a small adapter that can be removed for use in the first, original Nintendo DS model.

Guitar Hero: On Tour takes the core component of the Red Octane original and its gazillion console sequels and accurately reduces it for play on the Nintendo DS.I popped it into my DS, and after just a few songs my hand had cramped up and I had to move my entire body to a different position.

And since you're strapped into the device it isn't the most comfortable -- or accurate -- guitar experience, and when you combine the playing and watching on the unit you're bound to get a little cramped up after a bit of playing. This content may be purchased by users who have registered a Nintendo Account and accepted the respective legal terms. I’m not going to defend Guitar Hero: On Tour as a stand-alone: if you want the absolute Guitar Hero experience you really should grab the real deal for whatever console you may have. IGN commented that the setlist was "a little debatable" and "clearly being aimed at a friendlier, mainstream, pop-friendly crowd".

This is activated by yelling or blowing into the DS's microphone, by pressing any of the face buttons on the DS, or by tapping the Star Power meter on the touchscreen. The result is a Nintendo DS version of the series that truly feels like it's a part of the Guitar Hero license and not a cheap cash-in.

The Guitar Grip provides four fret buttons for the player, allowing them to strum on the DS touchscreen. The games support the local wi-fi connection of the Nintendo DS to allow players to play against each other even if using different versions of the game, with songs being share in an ad hoc manner during play. You also lose out on the social aspect of having observers watch you jam out to rock classics and contemporary hits -- but if my experience with the game in public is anything to go by, you'll end up with a few lookie-loos peering over your shoulder as you jam out on the Nintendo DS because it's such an unexpectedly cool experience. The player holds the unit in a vertical book orientation (similar to Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword or Hotel Dusk: Room 215), and uses a special guitar pick-shaped stylus to strum on the touchscreen of the DS with their free hand.
