About this deal

The station is without a doubt the most complex structure on the layout and as mentioned, if I didn't get that looking something like then there was no point in continuing. Around the many mills houses grew like weeds, built in a hurry on any land available no need to worry about sanitation or the view as one of the mill masters said " Houses were not made for living in: the mill was where they lived.

The valance on the outside edge is Slaters embossed Plastikard (2mm planking, if I remember correctly). to my mind gives it a more urban feel as though the railway was fitted in after most of the houses had been built, rather like the Saffron Street.

The first stage to Bury was an early electrification scheme and continues as part of the burgeoning Metrolink system. Wasn't sure what to do with the side of the pub (as you can see, the real boozer is within a row rather than on the end) so I drew up a few ideas on paper and then went with the one that looked better. Trish Kenny, who had saved them and looked after them, said she felt it was a weight off her shoulders to have someone do something to preserve the photos. How and why have different factors been more important than others for individual medical developments? Our museum, displays various domestic and military artefacts and we also hold one of the oldest fossil collections in Lancashire, along with Blodwen our bronze age lady.

Inasmuchas we tend to build a model railway to display trains on the track, and spend hours running them and shunting the yard etc, convention suggests that having a clear view is the common configuration, not least because some operations require reaching in to uncouple etc. By the 1850's Bacup had become of the black spots of industry the dark satanic mills casting their shadow over the town. The photos show how good the RFP photographers were - they knew their trade and provided fantastic snapshots, moments caught in time that I know people enjoy seeing. g. roads to nowhere, hills that are over steep, roads that are too narrow and have bends that are far too tight, bridges where there is no need for a bridge, etc). Anyway, I hope that these give a bit better idea of what the aim is, even if everything is at the same level at the moment.

The round sections at the top of the uprights are cross-sections of plastic tubing, with thin plastic rod then curved to shape around them. Quite a bit of it was done during the summer, sat in the garden with a beer in one hand and a scalpel in the other. There is no great accuracy for the measurements if I am honest; the ones for the houses are based on the Skaledale terraced house and expanded width and lengthways as the Skaledale one is a bit too diminutive (amongst other anomalies), whereas others are judged by looking at photos where there is something of known dimensions next to them (a car, 16 ton mineral wagon, etc).

Now this may seem a bit of an odd thing to do (after all, why put all this effort into the track, etc. Famous History graduates include Louis Theroux (documentary filmmaker, author), Jonathan Ross (TV presenter), Joe Biden (US President) and Gordon Brown (ex-British Prime Minister). Some of the slides shown then included the old Bacup Centre, old Boston Bridge, Bridge Street, Maden Memorial, Union Street, Market Street, Old Bull’s Head, Bacup’s coat of arms, Broadclough, Broadclough Plantation, Meadows Farm, and Tong Lane. Business has been carried out here for centuries, with the earliest traders dealing in woollen cloths and domestic flannels.

The track plan (everyone loves a track plan) is not an exact copy of Bacup, but uses the basic layout of the station. Also, to determine the track plan, I had to know how wide the platforms would be and to do that, I had to know how wide the canopies would be. With this in mind I will send photos of the item to all overseas purchasers and won't dispatch until I have confirmation that you have seen it and okayed it, please ask for photographs of the item if you are not sure in UK.

I actually started with a row of four terraces with bay windows and outhouses / outside loos at the back but then noticed that this style were the exception rather than the norm.Great, always like a bit of 'Northern urban grot', like the fact that you built the station first, I've just started on something similar based 20/25 miles south and before I've even thought about baseboards the station is well under construction! What I have lost in size of goods yard should hopefully be made up for in operational (shunting) interest.
